This new edition features a scholarly essay on Donovan by Richard Dalby and gathers together these outstanding stories of the macabre that have previously been found only in the original volume or in scarce anthologies. Dick Donovan was a master of not only the Jamesian ghostly tale, but also wrote weird tales of a more graphic, visceral nature, such as the type of tale familiar to readers of the American pulps.

Readers discovering Dick Donavan for the first time will be amazed at the range of his work, from the Teutonic Gothic of "The Legend of Wolfspring" to the lurid excesses of "The Cave of Blood", Donovan covers the depth and breadth of supernatural horror in a style uniquely his own.
