The Beasts of Brahm is the first volume in the Midnight House program to bring the remarkable thrillers of Mark Hansom back into print. An eerie mystery
that seamlessly blends the genres of the whodunit with supernatural horror,
The Beasts of Brahm has been virtually unobtainable in any form since it was
reprinted by Mellifont in 1940. Copies of either edition of this book are exceedingly rare, with specialist dealers asking hundreds of dollars for the Wright & Brown
first edition. The late Karl Edward Wagner cited Hansom’s
The Shadow on the House as one of his top thirteen novels of supernatural horror. While we
share Mr. Wagner’s enthusiasm for that novel, our research has turned up several other works by Mr. Hansom that we consider equal to or even superior to
The Shadow on the House. Such is the scarcity of Hansom’s books that we would venture to guess that few modern readers have had the pleasure of
reading any of his other novels.
Noted artist Allen Koszowski has created new cover artwork based on the original dustjacket. Editor John Pelan examines the mysterious disappearance of the
author, who vanished after writing a string of highly successful supernatural thrillers. In this volume Mark Hansom proves that he has more than earned his place in
the pantheon of the masters of the supernatural thriller and as this marks the first appearance in print of any of his work in fifty years we expect that copies shall sell
very rapidly. $40.00 the copy, scheduled for release September 2001.
