Fingers of Fear may well lay claim to being the last of the great Gothic supernatural novels. Author J.U. Nicolson weaves a tale of madness, hauntings, murder, and possible lycanthropy in this marvelous novel of supernatural terror. Fingers of Fear is in many ways also a precursor to the melodramatic horror in the style of the television show Dark Shadows and its progeny. As such, it may be considered one of the more important works of modern horror fiction. Nicolson’s novel is also an interesting exercise of social criticism (wherein, even during the depression, the upper classes prey upon the lower) masquerading as popular shudder fiction.

Cited as one of the thirteen best novels of supernatural horror by the late Karl Edward Wagner, Fingers of Fear is without question the best and most lasting of Nicolson’s literary productions. A novel that’s lasting importance as a bridge between the Gothics and modern horror cannot be overstated. Last published as a paperback thirty-five years ago, this classic of the macabre has been unavailable in hardcover for over sixty years. We are very pleased to be able to make this book available to a new generation of readers, reservations are being accepted now. Cover art is by Allen Koszowski and the book includes a new introduction and complete bibliography of Nicolson’s books by Douglas A. Anderson. We anticipate delivery of Fingers of Fear in early December. Copies are $40.00, and considering the scarcity of earlier editions of this book we suggest that reservations are made early to avoid possible disappointment.
